Game of Thrones is an American medieval fantasy television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It is based on George R. R. Martin's best-selling A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels, the first of which is called A Game of Thrones. The show's production is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and has also filmed in Malta, Croatia and Iceland. Its cast is mainly British and Irish. 


The first season of the series debuted in the U.S. on April 17, 2011.Two days later, it was picked up for a second season,which is set to start airing on April 1, 2012. According to the Belfast Telegraph, in March 2012, HBO ordered the production of a third and fourth season, which are to cover the third novel in the series, A Storm of Swords, and which are to be filmed concurrently in Northern Ireland from June 2012 to about February 2013.
